Today would have been my father’s 72nd birthday.
On the way home from work, I stopped at the store to pick up a few things, and the total came to $4.04. As I reached into my pocket to get the change, I pulled out a 1939 “wheat cent”.
How do I know it was a penny from Heaven? My father used to collect “wheat cents”, and I haven’t come across any in the past few years.
Happy birthday, Dad!
Yes, that certainly was a penny from heaven; hope you kept it!
Funny, I had a fortune cookie two nights ago that said pennies from heaven would fall abundantly into my life this year.
Too often, I think we consider pennies worthless. But if “a penny for your thoughts” is so important, (not to mention getting our two cents’ worth in!) then I’ll always enjoy finding them.
happy birthday to your dad.
The penny is very interesting, that is what happened to my brother. My mother passed away 15 years ago. She was living with my brother at the time of her passing. Naturally, family all immediately gathered and there were a lot of people around for the next 3-4 days. We all left returning to our respective homes in different cities and he was left alone. It was within a couple of days of our leaving that on returning home from work he found an English penny on the counter.
My mother was a English lady and very proud of her English roots. She came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride. But there was no English money in the house, before that penny. Where it came from no one can say, but I believe it was a penny from Heaven. Her way of trying to reassure my brother and all of us that she was OK.
Glad, I found your site, hope you don’t mind if I add you to my blog roll.
Bill
I’d say it was definitely a penny from Heaven! What a neat experience!
